Angelina Jolie, originally Angelina Jolie Voight (born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actress, director, and producer, best known for her sex appeal , as and her charitable work. Jolie, the daughter and actor Jon Voight, was raised in New York. After her growing up, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she played the role of the mental patient in Girl, interrupted (1999). After being at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years, she then took up a place at Beverly Hills High School. New York University later taught her drama. She also appeared in theatre productions and modelled for music videos. It was in Hackers (1995) that Jolie met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1997; divorced 1999). The film was not able to attract an audience, which was the case for several subsequent films. Jolie, who played the role of governor's wife of Alabama's segregationist governor attracted a lot of attention in 1997. The following year, she was awarded the Golden Globe Award. Jolie played the supermodel struggling with addiction to drugs in the HBO movie Gia in 1999. The performance won her numerous honours including the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award. She co-starred with John Cusack in Pushing Tin in 1999. In the following year, she tied the knot with Thornton (divorced in 2003). Jolie played the carjacker's girlfriend (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. Then, she took on an accent that resembled a British accent and learned street fighting and kickboxing in order to play the role in Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. In 2004, she played the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander and also played alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a science fiction thriller set in 1930s New York City. Both films were box office disappointments however, Jolie was a huge success with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), where she played an assassin pretending to be an ordinary housewife. While working on the film, she became acquainted with Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
